Burger Battle Lineup Takes Shape

See which burgerific restaurants will offer samples at the Sept. 18 charity benefit, organized by an Elk Grove resident.

Elk Grove foodie and man-about-town Rodney Blackwell has finalize the lineup for his upcoming , and it’s quite mouthwatering.

In fact, we were so inspired yesterday reading about all the burgerlicious options that we had to run out and get a burger of our own. Ours came from the Tower Café (the Borracho, a half-pounder with fried onions and spicy barbecue sauce, if you must know)—which isn’t one of the restaurants competing in the September 18 event at Raley Field.

But there are a number of other familiar names on the list of competitors, including De Vere’s Irish Pub; Sacramento’s newish Southern food restaurant The Porch; and Krush Burger (formerly Mini Burger Truck), the popular burgermobile that makes regular stops in Elk Grove.

Elk Grove’s own Bret Bohlmann of will help judge the burgers, along with food writers Rick Kushman and Erin Jackson, and Corti Brothers’ Rick Mindermann.

We’ve just got one question for Mr. Blackwell, an Elk Grove booster if ever we met one—why no Elk Grove restaurants in the competition? Do this town's burgers just not measure up?

Will you be attending the Sacramento Burger Battle? What do you think of the lineup? Tell us in the comments.
