'Pets to Go' Will Open a Second Branch

The owners hope to open the second branch by April 15.

When Pets to Go owner Jeremy Epstein and his wife Angel took to Facebook to announce their decision to open a second Pets to Go on April 15, the update quickly amassed more than 120 "likes" in less than 24 hours. It seemed as though Elk Grove residents were pleased with the news.

However, it might seem no people were more pleased than Epstein and Angel.

"We are ready for a new challenge," said Epstein in an emailed response. "Pets To Go West has been a wonderful experience, and after all the years we felt it was time to progress to the next challenge. We currently have a strong draw from the east side, and believe we can make our east location as strong as the current store."

Epstein credits the decision to open the second store, which will be located on the southeast corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Waterman Road, based on the relationships he and Angel have created with their clients.

"Both Angel and I come from veterinary backgrounds, and we work with our staff to ensure that we are the most educated pet people in the market," he said.

Being able to help customers with their concerns and help them make better choices for their animals is a primary goal, Epstein said. Excluding Angel and himself, Epstein noted that his staff has a combined time of 20 years working for the current store, and are amazing in their ability to service our customers needs.

The second location will feature a self-service dog wash, food and supplies for dogs, cats, small animals, backyard chickens, reptiles, birds and some horse and fish supply. The store will have rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, reptiles and some birds for sale. Some of the pens utilize “open top” caging on some animals, as the Epsteins encourage children to come in and interact with the animals. And if customers can't find what they're looking for, Epsteing says he is more than willing to order specific products.

"We have the greatest job in the world," Epstein said. "We spend our days interacting with “customers” that over the years have grown to be friends. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to meet new people on a daily basis which gives us the opportunity to turn new clients into advocates for Pets To Go."

Epstein says his store enbodies the sense of "local".

"Our children attend local public schools; we live in the community; we coach our kids sports teams; work with local 4H groups; Angel is a PTO board member; we are the official food supplier for the EGPD Canine officers; we supply reptile food items for the Sacramento Zoo; we supply food for the animals in the Cosumnes River College veterinary technology program," he said.

There will be varying product offerings at the two locations, Epstein said, but the core ethics (family, community, service, education) of the two stores will be the same.

"Elk Grove is our home in every sense and we have been able to create a viable business that allows us to be a part of the community."
