In our first meeting here I told you that I believed that any discussion or argument here was not…Read More done to change the minds of those involved, rather it was to influence those who are reading them; third parties.
You have been very helpful in that regard. Anyone reading our exchanges can see you for what you are.
I tried to have a discussion with you and could not even agree on the definition of words with out hours of argument
You have an agenda and you will not allow anything to get in the way of it. That agenda includes trying to circumvent and weaken the 2nd amendment and redefine it's intent.

Once again you misdirect. You made a specific statement about one California piece of legislation…Read More you claimed did very specific things and, therefore, was unconstitutional. I'm not arguing the constitutionality. I'm arguing that the factual basis, the things that legislation does, is wrong. We can't even begin to discuss the constitutionality if the facts are wrong. I have provided the evidence that your facts are wrong. You have yet to counter that evidence. And now you change the conversation to "the constitutional intricacies within hundreds of pages of proposed state & federal firearms legislation written in legalese." You made very specific factual claims about one specific piece of California legislation. I've provided the bill number as well as the analysis. And all you can do is now quibble over whether eristical is a word that I should have looked up.
I will never understand why you and the rest of the right-wingers are so incapable of understanding that if they post "facts" in the context of their arguments that are proven to be false, they believe the problem is with the person who proves them wrong. Seriously, Jeff ... if the factual basis for your claim of unconstitutional provisions is wrong, how can you keep arguing the legislation is unconstitutional? Why is it so hard for you to back up those "facts?" You're proving yourself to be no better than the rest.

You imply far too much, sir. But your further response implies other things. First, that I have…Read More ever questioned your interest in defending the Constitution. I have not. Second, that somehow those who haven't served in the military would somehow have less of a desire in preserving and defending the Constitution.
It's interesting, everybody I know who has served in the military who has expressed an opinion on the issue has stated that above all, they believe in the right of others to express their opinions, that what they were defending when they served was the beauty of the divergent views and opinions that exist in this country. Sadly, most of what you've done on Patch is contrary to that concept. As you have done everything you can to squelch any legitimate conversation about these important issues.
No, sir, I have not served in the military. A fact that I am not ashamed of. And a fact that is irrelevant as to whether or not I have a strong desire to preserve and defend the Constitution. Nothing I have suggested is an attack on the Constitution.

We thank our teachers from elementary school through graduate school by remembering that spelling…Read More and literacy in the language of one's culture and community matters, that reading newspapers matters, that what we publish online represents their efforts to teach us how to articulate our thoughts and ideas, and how to read with care and consideration the opinions of others with that same thoughtful consideration. We thank our teachers by taking the work they do and the hours and hours of unpaid and free or volunteer work "behind the scenes" and the money they spend out of their pockets to improve the learning environment for their students seriously. Most of all, we thank them by growing up to be civil and to work hard at whatever jobs or tasks we are given in life to the best of our abilities; and if some of that work began with the encouragement and recognition given by a teacher, then that is a joyful word of thanks to all of us who were students and are indeed, today, teachers.

I just chose 15 years as a marker because the population has tripled in 15 years. In 1998 the…Read More population was less than 50,000 I believe. I think when city hood was established in 2000 we had about 60,000-70,000. I'm not sure what you consider sprawl or uncontrolled growth. There was a need for housing in the Sacramento area. The problem with the growth that came was that the county didn't build infrastructure and didn't bring jobs. The county set us on this path of being a bedroom community. The Franklin Reserve and East Elk Grove are prime examples of county mismanagement. 5000 homes were approved and built in East Elk Grove yet the roads were not improved. They were 2 lane rural roads with stop signs. I've lived in Elk Grove my whole life, which is almost 50 years and I moved to East part of Elk Grove in 2002 after having lived in Laguna the rest of the time. The county had no intentions of improving the roads. The city made it a priority. Also the county approved Franklin Reserve and Johnson Middle Schools and Franklin High School and once again did nothing to improve infrastructure. Whitelock Parkway was a 2 lane road with no access to Franklin Blvd. Ask those parents there. It was a night mare and took 45-60 minutes to drop off their kids in the morning and pick them up. The city came in and fixed it. Also when PG High was proposed they worked with the EGUSD to make sure the same mistakes weren't made

EGLF ... that would be possible if M. had made a general comment. Instead, she personalized it to…Read More me and did so in a way that is without foundation. Just as an example, her suggestion that my job depends on social programs -- personal and directed at me. As I pointed out to her, my job security in my current position depends more on unbridled growth in this State than anything. As I pointed out in my subsequent comments, what is most fascinating is that she was incapable of seeing, through her ideological hatred of me, that what I actually believe is best is that the way of life she so values is something worth preserving.
What fascinates me about your comment is the suggestion that the cut off for people being responsible for growth is 15 years. I've lived in Sacramento since I was one and in the Elk Grove area for the past 20 years. I'm pretty certain that the sprawl and uncontrolled growth began before I arrived in the Elk Grove area. One wonders why you pick 15 years.

It's possible that what M. Legison is referring to is often the same people who support no…Read More growth/anti development issues are the same group for the most part that want affordable housing, more entitlements, more things for tax payers to pay for, but don't hold those who abuse the system accountable.
Mom to many, when did you move to Elk Grove and do you realize that you are probably living in a house in a once rural area? You sound like Jane Gassner who moved into one of the newer developments in the Franklin Reserve area then complained about new houses being built just south of her. Anyone who has moved here in the last 15 years is responsible for the growth and really can't complain about it.

Our system is broken because “Our” Government refuses to enforce the laws that have…Read More already been passed and our Elected Representatives turn a blind eye to the mess that they have created by referring to something called “Comprehensive Reform that is going to fix everything. I'm going to have to find time to call and get some tips in person! Thank you for the details above.…Read More I followed a low carb diet to lose 50 pounds about 8 years ago and it worked VERY well for me. Looking at labels was very enlightening. I've managed to keep the pounds off except for 10 that I go back and forth with since menopause. I started trying to just eat much healthier these days with a LOT more fresh fruit and veggies. I really enjoy this way of eating but it requires a lot of trips to the store for fresh items. What I'd like to do is find a good balance with dairy and protien to go with my fresh produce. I would also like to use grains efficiently in as far as avoiding the bad and using the good in moderation. There is an overabundance of information out there and I find it all confusing sometimes. Another thing I'd like to add is honey. Locally grown. But it's another SUGAR thing....sigh. I'm just gonna have to call you.
Kia April 16, 2013 at 02:54 pm
Hi Denise - great questions! I'll try to be brief.
Splenda is NOT sugar or food. It is a neurotoxin…Read More that also causes damage to the thymus gland. Also, numerous studies have shown that long term use of artificial sweeteners actually causes weight gain over time. (I'm happy to provide documentation on these statements if you like.)
Dairy is a tricky subject and could be the focus of a multi-volume text. Non-fat dairy products are higher in sugar, and are filled with non-nutritive gums and undigestible fibers to create what the industry calls "mouth feel" after the naturally occurring fats are removed. Basically what you end up with is a highly processed "food" full of damaged proteins and sugar. Instead, opt for organic, whole, unflavored, unsweetened REAL yogurt and add your own fresh or frozen fruit.
The Nature's Path Pumpkin Flax Plus granola has 37 grams of carbohydrate per serving. Let's break that down: on the label they claim 5g fiber and 10g sugar, so where is the remaining 22g of carbs? Those 22g are sugars that occur naturally so they don't have to list them as "added" sugars like the 10g on the label. That means you get a whopping 32g of glucose creating carbs per serving. It's also important to note that the serving size is 3/4 cup and most people don't limit themselves to that. For comparison, a Snickers Bar has 33g of carbohydrate and 27g of sugar.
Happy to have a more detailed conversation if you want to contact me directly 415-813-6183
