Davis Patch Editor Justin Cox mingled amongst the masses at the Ron Paul rally at UC Davis.
Editor's Note — Davis Patch Editor Justin Cox snapped these photos during a Town Hall with Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on the UC Davis Quad Thursday night, May 3. Although it's not in Elk Grove, we thought you'd be interested to see this account since Davis isn't too far away. Quite honestly, if any other Republican presidential candidate were to have stopped by the UC Davis quad to give a campaign speech yesterday, there's little doubt in my mind that it would have been overshadowed by some form of protest. We're talking about the same quad where non-violent students were pepper sprayed by campus police as the Occupy movement took hold last November, turning the location into a symbol and a gathering point. To put it …

Sacramento County is seeking precinct officers for the June 5 election.
The Sacramento County Elections Office is preparing for the statewide June 5 election, and needs more precinct workers who speak Cantonese, Mandarin or Spanish. These workers staff polling places, and are paid $100 for working from 6 a.m. to about 10 p.m., according to a press release. First-time precinct workers also earn $25 to attend a training class. "To serve as a precinct officer you must be a United States citizen, California resident, registered voter, able to read and write English, and are at least 18 years of age," the office said in a press release. "Persons on parole for the conviction of a felony may not serve as a precinct officer." The precinct officers issue and collect ballots, assist voters, and "prepare, open, maintain …

Local election officials posted an online ad last week.
Sacramento County Elections officials have enlisted a young spokesman for voting by mail, and they aren't bashful about their influences. “The E-Trade Baby commercials are attention-grabbing and entertaining,” Sacramento County Registrar of Voters Jill LaVine said in a press release. “We wanted to use this medium to reach out and communicate with people of all ages about voting by mail.” In a video posted last week and originally produced by Riverside County, a talking toddler reminiscent of the ones promoting the online stock trading website advises his mom to vote by mail to avoid "standing in line like a vote-a-saurus." Just more than half of Sacramento County's 645,558 registered voters vote by mail, according to the press release. The…

Two-time challenger hopes packed schedule of house parties will give him advantage against incumbent.
A campaign fundraiser in Los Altos Hills this past weekend was just another day in a busy summer for Dr. Ami Bera. Bera, of Elk Grove, says he's taken part in dozens of house parties in the past few months in his drive to unseat U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Gold River). According to The Sacramento Bee, campaign reports show Bera raised $534,009 through the first six months of the year. That's compared to $419,617 for Lungren. Bera said he hasn't determined how much he's raised so far this summer, but that the campaign has about 1,500 individual donors. The candidates aim to represent the current 3rd Congressional District, which will become the 7th district if proposed new maps are approved August 15. Bera, a 46-year-old clinical professor at…

I posted the evidence that what you say about Paul and student loans is false, and you deleted it, and didn't change your article. That is dishonest. http://www.ronpaul2012.com/2011/10/24/ron-paul-is-not-ending-student-loans/   more ›
