Shopping, Fireworks, Eating and more Shopping in Elk Grove

Shopping fun in Elk Grove with our Spanish Homestay visitor.

Well so much for trying to keep up a daily blog of all our adventures! We have been doing so much we can't possibly take time to write it all down. I can say it has been lots of fun and I am learning so much about Spain and about the differences between our two countries in addition to the similarities.

Lots of us spent the 4th of July at Elk Grove Park and what a great event! Parking was easy, there were lots of people there and still there was lots of room. Virginia took pictures with military personnel and military vehicles, with cutouts of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and visited several excellent vendors. We enjoyed a great band and watched the dancing (some of us did a little of our own) and we really enjoyed the fireworks at the end of the night.

We have done a lot of shopping - first to Best Buy to buy her a local phone and calling card. That experience was awful I'm sad to say. What should have taken 15 minutes took 45 and was mostly waiting while the clerks did everything but help us. However, next we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and that was an awesome customer service experience! All in all a great day shopping, finished up by and excellent visit to Leatherby's - see picture. It turns out that scoops of ice cream in Spain are verrrryyyy small compared to ours. :-)

Good news - we went back to Best Buy to look at eReaders and the 2 guys who helped us were awesome! So happy that happened. :-)

We had another great experience working with the Elk Grove Library for our Homestay recruitment efforts for the visiting French Students but sorry to say no one showed up. :-( I could use some suggestions from anyone regarding recruiting methods while school is out!

Thanks to the gas station across the street for the great gas sale last Saturday, that made my day!

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.
