Homes and a commercial building were damaged by high winds Monday.

A possible tornado touched down in Elk Grove Monday night, tearing open a commercial building, damaging homes and tossing debris around neighborhoods, authorities say.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration listed a report of a possible tornado in Elk Grove, and the Cosumnes Fire Department detailed some of the damage.

"Storm event caused roof damage to Commercial building at 10268 Waterman Road," the fire department posted to Twitter around 6 p.m.

About 20 homes on or near Oreo Circle–near Grant Line and Waterman roads–were also damaged, the department said.

"Broken windows, downed fences and trees," the department said, noting there were no injuries reported.

Several readers also detailed the weather in emails to Elk Grove Patch.

"We just missed the tornado touching down 3 blocks from our house," Kristin Parsons wrote.
