Elk Grove, As Defined by Urban Dictionary

Some of these definitions are amusing and truthful, while others are somewhat derogatory and offensive.

Urban Dictionary describes itself as "the dictionary you wrote." We looked up Elk Grove on the popular website and found five entries (one of them was for the Elk Grove in Illinois, though). Some are amusing and truthful, while others are derogatory and offensive.

The top definition is the one that received the most votes. We've shared it below (it was posted in 2006). Feel free to define Elk Grove yourself in the comments below this story:

Elk Grove: A relatively safe city but it sucks if you don't have a car since you will never live close enough to all of the hang out sites.

Also the fastest growing city in America.

Where people are shocked when someting violent happens.

My friend- What do you want to do?
Me- What do you mean it's Elk Grove there is nothing to do.

You can submit your own definition of Elk Grove to Urban Dictionary here

You think it's bad now? It was once much worse. The exciting thing to do was to go to "town" meaning Sacramento and cruise "J St.". If you wanted to see a movie you went to the Sac 6 drive in or Century Theatre on Arden Way. We did however have a neat hamburger drive in at "Parkway Drive In" which was located where the self serve car wash and Dimple Records is now located on Elk Grove Blvd. The food and shakes were delicious and if you were lucky enough to be dating one one of the girls that worked there they hooked you up with a burger or ice cream. Seamed like there was always a party at someones house on the weekends and if not you could always count on there being some partying going on at Meise Rd. bridge in Sloughouse. There wasn't any chain restaurants at all until McDonalds came. But we did have the old EG Club! They had the best prime rib for miles around! There wasn't 50 pizza places either! We had Pizza Barn by 99 and then Roundtable came in with Bel Air which recently closed. Before Bel Air came you had to go to Mar Val or EG Mart. Both nice honest affordable grocery stores. There wasn't a bunch of Karate/martial arts places either. Your real hobby was your 4-H or FFA project that you grew or raised for the county fair in May. Imagine, one high school where the teachers knew who your parents were and would talk to them when they saw them at the grocery store. What do we have now 6 high schools now in the EG area? No, things weren't too bad at all back then.

John, I remember those days too. We know growth is inevitable, but the city has been all but destroyed with South Sac essentially apending the city, and people bringing their bad Bay Area manners and driving habits. We're really not directly affected out east but we rarely shop there any more.

I too remember all of the above. Also, the 4 way stop light at Elk Grove/Florin and EG Blvd.
Nnoo Laguna and Valley Hi, no crime that made the state and national news, pot houses, ect, ect, ect. Don't want to get in the way of progress but come on....I used to be proud to live in EG, but not now...

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.
