“Our City is home to more than 90 parks, 18 miles of trails, farmers markets, fitness centers and pools that offer countless ways to eat right and stay active,” said Mayor Gary Davis. “We hope the new ‘Join the Movement’ campaign will connect our residents with the tools and resources they need to live a healthy and active Elk Grove lifestyle.”

The “Join the Movement” web pages also offer a calendar of fitness and wellness events and tournaments, wellness tips, a directory of local gyms, fitness classes, parks, pools, cooking classes, trails and much more.  The site features resources from local community partners, including the Cosumnes Community Services District, Kaiser Permanente and The Running Zone.

The “Join the Movement” campaign will feature monthly activities throughout 2014 that include a 5K fun run, a bike parade, a National Yoga Month demonstration at the Elk Grove Rain Garden, and GO Fest—Elk Grove’s first health and fitness festival on May 31.

Not only does it encourage improved health among Elk Grove’s residents, but the campaign supports the City Council goal of promoting Elk Grove as a recreational and cultural center that attracts visitors, and promotes facilities, activities, amenities, and natural resources that position the City as a destination.  In the coming years, the City of Elk Grove plans to build a landmark civic center, aquatics center and soccer complex.
