Elk Grove residents looking to connect with the original purpose of Memorial Day have plenty of ways to remember this week.
The Elk Grove Cosumnes Cemetery District will hold a at its cemetery, 8540 Elk Grove Blvd.
Elk Grove City Council Member Sophia Scherman will continue an annual Memorial Day morning tradition of handing out flags to people passing by the Elk Grove Boulevard headquarters of the Cosumnes Community Services District. The flags will begin the day planted in the district's lawn. She'll hand out 2,012 flags in honor of her uncle, who died in the World War II Battle of Iwo Jima.
Another Memorial Day service planned for Monday is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the , 9189 East Stockton Blvd.
