Elk Grove Police Will Run to Benefit Special Olympics

Elk Grove residents may see traffic delays during the event.

Elk Grove Police on Friday will hit the streets, running with the torch of the Special Olympics of Northern California.

EGPD TO PARTICIPATE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN

ELK GROVE, CA – EThe Elk Grove Police Department will be teaming up with law enforcement personnel from Federal, Military, State, County and local agencies for the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) on June 28.  The LETR is the single largest fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Northern California.  This will be the first year that the Elk Grove Police Department has participated in the event. 

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will pass through the City of Elk Grove on Friday, June 28 at 8 a.m.  Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department will be receiving the torch from members of the Galt Police Department in the parking lot of Bel-Air (Waterman Rd. and Elk Grove Blvd).  A short ceremony will be held at 7:30 a.m. prior to the arrival of the torch to commemorate the event.

Once the torch has been received, Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner and more than 20 Elk Grove Police Department employees will participate in the three-mile run to EGPD's main campus located at 8400 Laguna Palms Way.  Motorists may experience traffic delays while the run is taking place. Runners will be travelling westbound on Elk Grove Blvd. then northbound on Laguna Springs Dr. before turning into the Elk Grove Police Department parking lot.  EGPD officers will then transport the torch to Sacramento State and join other regional law enforcement agencies for the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to the State Capital.

The Law Enforcement Wall of Honor and the Opening Ceremonies and the will be held later that evening at Aggie Stadium on the campus of UC Davis.  The Law Enforcement Wall of Honor will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the Opening Ceremonies starting at7:30 p.m. The 2013 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games will feature more than 700 athletes during the two days of competition (Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th)  9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Additional information regarding the games can be found at http://www.sonc.org/sports/summer-games
