Food Trucks Mobilize to Feed Local Homeless

Food trucks gather at Loaves and Fishes to pay it forward to feed those in need.

They revved their engines and provided nourishment to those who may need it most.

On Monday, a fleet of some of Sacramento's most beloved food trucks made its way to Loaves and Fishes near Downtown Sacramento to donate roughly $7,000 in food to homeless people, according to Capitol Public Radio.

Seven trucks specializing in everything from barbecue pork sliders to gourmet hamburgers went to Loaves and Fishes to serve roughly 700 people.

The event was coordinated by Sacramento food truck festival organizers Sacto Mo-Fo, and several volunteers including District 7 Supervisor Don Nottoli, who represents Elk Grove and Rosemont, and Sacramento Councilmember Kevin McCarty

"The community has been so welcoming to the food truck industry and we felt compelled that we return the generosity that the community has shown to us in the form to those who are a little less fortunate," Paul Somerhausen, Sacto Mo-Fo organizer, told Capitol Public Radio in this story.  "They're giving away a day of business, a day of labor and the product because it's been a really busy year, it's been a very positive year and we want to make sure that we show the appreciation to the community that they've shown to us."
