Elk Grove and Sacramento County residents will be able to get free rabies vaccinations for their pets Saturday as the city marks World Rabies Day.
World Rabies Day is Friday, but Elk Grove's Animal Services Unit will mark the event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Kittel Family Veterinary Practice, 8153 Elk Grove Blvd. Suite 30.
Pets of residents of the city and unincorporated Sacramento County will be able to get free rabies vaccines and $5 microchips. The first 100 Elk Grove residents to buy a one-year animal license will receive a free microchipping for their pets.
"This campaign offers all of us a unique opportunity to increase global awareness of the most deadly disease known to humans," a press release quotes Dr. Deborah Briggs, Executive Director for the Alliance of Rabies Control, as saying.
