Hey Elk Grove, What Issues Do You Want to Talk About in 2013?

Tell us what you want us to cover in the comments below, and share this story with your friends and family in town.

Now that the holidays are behind us, we want to take a moment to look forward at 2013 to see what local issues we should be covering.

Us editors took a bit of time off during the holidays to relax with family and recharge our batteries, but now we’re back, and we really want you to guide our coverage going forward.

So Elk Grove, what should we be covering in 2013? Whether it’s a simple news tip or a broad issue or subject, please tell us what you want to discuss in the months that lie ahead.

The three of us (Justin, Cody and Josh) are here to converse with you in the comments below this article.

We don't have the ability to cover everything in town, so we want your help in allocating our energy toward things you want to read about. Feel free to tell us why your suggested issue is important.

I would say we need coverage of city council and planning commission meetings.
Beyond that just covering news stories as they happen.

How about doing more stories about Elk Grove residents? Who exactly lives in our city, any local "celebrities" such as Dell Rogers, or people with interesting jobs, etc. Would like to see a focus on the positive stuff of Elk Grove.

I would like to see A LOT of coverage on the Elk Grove School District and everything going on at High School, Middle School, and Elm. I would like to see how they use the Prop 30 money and have the Patch be sort of a watch dog to make sure our kids are safe, getting everything our tax dollars are supposed to be used for, and to monitor some of these teachers and principals....

some indepth coverage, investigating, and review of the schools etc... we want to celebrate the GOOD and make sure we address any issues etc....

That's a great idea.

Crime Prevention - What is EGPD doing? Are there needs for improvement? How will the new Walmart Store, in the middle of a quiet residential area, impact crime and quality of life there? Can we place more cameras (not speed cameras, just plain video cameras) on major streets leading to South Sac where many criminals seem to flee towards? I want to know how this city can NOT become a new section of South Sac.....

What's the status on the southern district expansion. Will there be a multi-purpose stadium? Do we have room for a "destination attraction" like a science museum? Will the Capital Southeast Connector be built?

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.
