June 3–5: Read Between the Lines, Do I Amuse You? and More

Here's what's happening in and around Elk Grove this weekend.

Happy June, everyone!  While it may not have started out in typically warm and sunny fashion, it's nonetheless a month of interest and change, with an upcoming full moon on the 15th, Flag Day, Father's Day and the Summer Solstice.  We invite you to be a tourist in your own backyard and walk, bike or drive to these destinations for some fun-filled entertainment.  Are your relatives visiting from out of state?  Take them to First Friday and show them a good time at this Elk Grove tradition by exploring the shops, people watching and having dinner at , or , depending on what kind of cuisine they're craving.  It's but one of the five possibilities for you this time around—here's to keeping it local!

Where/When: Old Town Elk Grove (Walnut Street to School Street), Friday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Come on out for this monthly event and peruse vendor booths, listen to music, view art displays, get your face painted and more—you can even find out what your future has in store with a tarot card or palm reading from the resident psychic.

2. Zumba Kim One-Year Anniversary Party & Class

Where/When: Fusion Fitness & Dance, Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by Open House from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Celebrate with the Fusion Fitness gang, and enjoy breakfast food and beverages, demonstrations, raffles, prize giveaways and June special offers.  Sport that new workout wear, bring a friend and start your morning off on the right foot—and left, for that matter!

Pricing: $10 per person.

Where/When: Franklin Community Library, Saturday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Kids, you can sign up for the library's family reading program at this  party, where you'll wiggle your middle with hula hoops, draw with sidewalk chalk and even chat up Mimo the Clown.  Want more?  You'll also get ice cream and a coupon for a complimentary book to be used at the Friends of the Library Book Sale.

Where/When: Borders Books & Music, Saturday 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Why Go: Parents of youngsters ages eight through 12, bring your kids to Borders, where they'll commemorate the soon-to-be-released movie Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer with art and other fun projects.  Contact the store for complete details.

5.  Super Soul Brother Comedy Show

Where/When:  Coach's Classic Bar & Grill inside Strikes, Sunday 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. (doors open at 7:30 p.m.)

Why Go: Do you need a hearty belly laugh or two?  Let comedians Tristan Johnson, Chazz Hawkins and Lance Woods tickle your funny bone in the comfort of this modern, spacious venue.  Must be 21 and older to attend.

Pricing: $12 in advance/$15 at the door.
