May 6–8: Mom's the Word, Rock Out, Super Sale, More

Here's what's happening in and around Elk Grove this weekend.

The sound of music is in the air!  Rock 'n' roll fans, head to Sacramento this Friday night to hear Elk Grove's own Random Shuffle do their thing on the Delta King.  In the spirit of Rodgers and Hammerstein, here are some more of our favorite things:  Fresh tasty treats for dogs and their owners, garage sale items from various donors, Mother's Day outings, there's so much to do—these activities have been picked just for you!

1. Random Shuffle Band

Where/When: Delta King, 1000 Front St., Sacramento, Friday 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Why Go: Rock out to the sounds of this Elk Grove band on the river in the bar and grill area, where you'll hear them perform different musical genres, including classic rock, ballads, dance tunes and even some country thrown in for good measure.

Pricing: No cover charge; food and drink prices vary.

Where/When: Laguna Lake Way, Saturday 7 a.m. until noon.

Why Go: Be a part of this annual tradition and find some treasures along the way as you pound the pavement going from house to house.  Come get your fill of clothing, books, furniture and toys at discounted prices—don't forget your wallet!

Pricing: Free to enter; merchandise prices vary.

3. Inaugural Coffee & Cookies

Where/When: Pets To Go, Saturday 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Why Go: Ring in your morning with free coffee and pastries, and bring Rover along for complimentary dog cookies, too.  You'll hear guest speaker Laura Tijan of A.L.L. Dog Training discuss socialization and training techniques.  There's also a 25 percent discount on all doggie toys and treats during this special time frame.

4.  Mother's Day Brunch

Where/When: BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Treat Mom to pancakes, eggs and whatever else her tummy desires on this special day—no cooking allowed for the woman who does it all!  Reservations required for parties of 10 or more.

Pricing: Varies depending on what you order; both brunch and regular menus will be available.

5. Project R.I.D.E. Open House

Where/When: 8840 Southside Ave., Sunday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go:  Grab your camera and come on over to see the beautiful Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales, and tour the riding arena and barn—an absolute must for all you horse lovers out there.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.
