Rescued Dog Saved by Groundbreaking Procedure by UC Davis Veterinarians

The following press release was submitted for publication by U.C. Davis:

A plucky dog named Bean, touched by muscular dystrophy and a litany of related ailments, has inspired experts at UC Davis from both human and veterinary medicine, as well as biomedical engineering, to provide groundbreaking treatments that have given the young dog a new lease on life.

Bean, who was rescued as a pup by two UC Davis veterinarians and their children, became the recipient of what is believed to be the first canine laryngectomy, a procedure that corrected persistent swallowing and regurgitation problems.

Now, months after her surgery, Bean has special needs but is thriving and serving as an inspiration to human patients who have had a similar procedure.

“You just have to meet Bean,” say those who have been touched by the dog’s resilience and spirit. You can do just that through this UC Davis news feature:  http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/welcome/features/2013-2014/12/20131218_Bean-the-dog.html.
