The Wake-Up Call: Block Parties, Postcards

Here's what's happening in and around Elk Grove today.

With school about to start for many of us and our children this month, the increase in community events is noticeable—lucky us!  Today, you can get to know your neighbors and keep criminals at bay at the same time.  Or have your children go Old School by using their fingers to make something—there's more to life than texting!

Neighborhood Watch.  It's that time again:  The 28th Annual is upon us, so come on out to one of 35 neighborhood gatherings sponsored by the and mingle with the fuzz and familiar faces while trading crime prevention tips.  Call 916-478-8117 to find the get-together nearest you.

Wish You Were Here.  Wondering how to amuse your youngsters tonight?  Take them to the Marian O. Lawrence Library in Galt from 6:30 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. for Message in a Bottle, part of the branch's Summer Reading Program, where they'll get busy making new postcards look decades old using canceled postage, ink stamps, images and more.  Yummy snacks and a raffle are also part of the fun—those librarians think of everything!
