Safety Town Registration Continues. Parents can sign their five-year-old children up for a fun two-week safety course presented by the Elk Grove Unified School District and the Elk Grove Police Department. The course begins July 18 at Ellen Feickert Elementary, costs $25, and uses songs and stories to explain fire prevention, bicycle safety and more. Register here.

Congress Rushes to Extend Patriot Act. Legislators are trying to reauthorize elements of the controversial anti-terrorism law before they expire tonight, the Huffington Post reports.
