The Wake-Up Call: Puppet Making, High-School Drama

Here's what's happening in and around Elk Grove today.

Let the learning begin again. After a three-month hiatus, Elk Grove kindergartners through seniors are hoofing it to school, backpacks in tow, ready for another challenging semester. And Elk Grove Patch's calendar is once more packed with school-related events. Here's what's happening today:

Apple for the teacher.  Edward Harris, Jr. Middle School is holding its Back-to-School Night at 6:30 p.m. for parents to meet teachers, take a tour of the campus and hear all about this year's curriculum.  Call (916) 688-0080 for details.

An actor's life for me.  Pleasant Grove High School students, get into character and try out for the fall play, Ordinary People, this Thursday, August 25, between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.  Pick up your audition forms in the theater and show your peers how you put the "t" in "thespian."

Play time.  Who says arts and crafts are just for kids?  Get the whole family involved in Puppet Making with ArtWorks, happening at Elk Grove Library from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Create cute Fandango-esque paper bag puppets and invite the neighborhood urchins for a show chez vous.
