It may be a four-day week for many in Elk Grove, but that hasn’t stopped the city from rolling up its sleeves and taking care of business. With the U.S. economic recovery now two years old, area businesses are not waiting around for improvement, but getting proactive. Here are a few of today’s business happenings in and around Elk Grove.

In the Patch

Generation F for Facebook Four generations work together in today’s business and professional world, but most workplaces are dominated by only two, and they are quickly becoming the most connected by social networking. The Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce is hosting a program to help businesses recruit and retain the younger generation. Dr. Bill Wittich, a local author, speaker and coach will speak on “Understanding the Generational Differences” at the chamber’s BIZ Workshop, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the chamber. Planning for the future Elk Grove Planning Commission will meet tonight to decide whether to approve the development of a strawberry and tomato farm on 8 acres on Waterman Road, south of Calvine Road. Kaur Farm is seeking a use permit to plant and harvest produce, and build a farm market and barn.

Getting better all the time And nationally, the NY Times today reported that gradual job growth is being measured on several fronts, including fewer unemployment claims, and two reports indicating more than 100,000 jobs were added to the economy in June.
