The following is a news release from the city of Elk Grove:

Beginning Friday night, work on the Elk Grove Boulevard Interchange will require off-ramp closures and a highway lane closure at Elk Grove Boulevard and Highway 99.

The northbound off-ramp will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10 and will reopen by 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.  One northbound freeway lane near the project will be closed during this time.  The southbound off-ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Jan. 17.

The closures are necessary to perform work on the Elk Grove Boulevard/SR 99 Interchange Modification Project.  Once complete, the project will significantly improve traffic flow at the Elk Grove Boulevard Interchange, currently one of the most outdated interchanges in the region on Highway 99.   The improvements will also enhance safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The project will add a northbound loop on-ramp to Highway 99 from East Stockton Boulevard, south of Elk Grove Boulevard, eliminate the signal at the existing northbound on-ramp at Elk Grove Boulevard, and add a second left turn lane to westbound Elk Grove Boulevard at the existing southbound on-ramp.

The project remains on schedule, with completion planned for spring 2014.  The project is funded primarily with a state grant from Proposition 1B.
