Traffic Alert: Highway 99 in Elk Grove Scheduled for Closure

The following is a news release from Caltrans District 3:

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists that a nighttime full freeway closure for State Highway 99 has been scheduled for late this evening Monday, November 25.  A signed detour using surface streets in the city of Elk Grove will be in place.

Construction work is ongoing between Laguna and Elk Grove Boulevards. Traffic delays are expected for north and southbound directions.

Estimated Work Schedule: Tuesday, November 26 from Midnight to 5 a.m.

A contractor is scheduled to adjust falsework at this location. Heavy construction equipment and machinery will be operating in and out of the work zone. Caltrans advises motorists to plan for additional travel time and to seek an alternate route until the closure is lifted.

The work is part of a $4.8 million project by Caltrans and the city of Elk Grove to build a 1,300-foot-long and 14-foot-wide bike/pedestrian overcrossing on Highway 99 spanning east and west Stockton Boulevard. The structure will connect to a new 2,640-foot-long and 12-foot-wide bike / walking trail in the city of Elk Grove.

Additional information on this project can be located at http://www.egpublicworks.org/eg-creek-trail/index.asp.

Roadside message boards will post the latest updates. Unexpected weather or other events may prolong or cause the work to be rescheduled. Caltrans urges motorists to use caution when travelling in this area and to "Slow for the Cone Zone". Additional Caltrans roadwork information can be found at http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist3/roadwork/
