Weekend Planner: Fitness Fest, Bowling Extravaganza

Here's what's happening in and around Elk Grove this weekend.

No one can say that Elk Grove residents don't care about local issues.  After the city council voted to ban lighting up near parks and schools, everyone's got smoke coming out of their ears about it.  Just look at our comments section. But it's Friday, so let's call a truce for the moment, put down the Marlboro Lights and concentrate on smoking-hot fun—no ifs, ands or butts!

Strike! Appetizers, raffle prizes, a no-host bar and good company are all part of the festivities during Friday's Bowling Extravaganza Charity Event to benefit Elk Grove Food Bank Services and Elk Grove Together, at from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  All 44 lanes are sold out, but our bowlers need cheerleaders, so come on down and root for your favorite foursome.

Don't mess with her.  There's still time to sign up for Self-Defense for Women at this Saturday from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.  This free class will show you how to avoid a violent confrontation and utilize your strengths against an attacker's weaknesses.  Register .
