A month after speed-painter David Garibaldi represented Sheldon High School on primetime television, another Elk Grove resident is competing on a national reality show.
"My wife is proud of me, my kids are proud of me," Black said on a recent episode. "That's what drives me."
He brought his wife and two of his five kids to his audition before the show's judges, where a soulful rendition of Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" led judge Simon Cowell to compare him to Nat King Cole.
He's one of the top 24 contestants on the show, which will award a $5 million record contract to its winner.
"Today is judgement day on #xfactor," Black wrote on Twitter Wednesday ahead of the day's episode. "I'm excited and nervous but no matter what I'm grateful."
