Man Hid 597 Pot Plants by Bypassing Electric Meter, Police Say

Huy Bang, 50, faces charges of growing marijuana and possessing marijuana to sell.

An Elk Grove man was arrested Tuesday after police served a search warrant and found nearly 600 marijuana plants growing in his home, according to an Elk Grove Police Department crime log.

Huy Bang, 50, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. at his east Elk Grove home on Apple Mill Drive.

When police arrived, they found 597 pot plants growing in the home, the crime log states. Officers "also confirmed with SMUD that there was an electrical bypass at the residence," which is a method of concealing the amount of electricity that was being used, police say.

Bang is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail.
