'Above and Beyond' Takes the Cake in Dessert Poll

New bakery wins first place, closely followed by Terri Does Desserts.

In a stunning upset, a bakery that just opened about a month ago swept this week's .

Readers left glowing directory and about and their custom pastries.

"The cakes are so moist and incredibly flavorful. The fillings - oh my yum! The mocha and caramel are to die for!" wrote Cynthia Morgan.

The bakery opened in the Elk Grove Florin Road location vacated by River City Cakes (though there is no relation between the two businesses) and owners Meghan and Daniel Jimenez already enjoy a strong following from catering customers who book them for weddings and birthday parties.

"We make custom, high-end cakes, the kind you see on television," said Daniel Jimenez. "We try to customize flavors for customers...blueberry, pistachio. Our red velvet with cream cheese frosting is probably the most popular."

finished a strong second, drawing raves from loyal customers who singled out their German chocolate cake and peach cobbler.

"Terri's desserts and goodies are fresh, made with all the real butters and sugars Grandmas used to use when making them from scratch," wrote site user Lucky Charms.

Over 200 people voted in the poll, in which also made a strong showing, and many of you shared it with friends on Facebook or took the time to post your own drool-worthy dessert photos on the site.
