Apple Facility Has Access to Enough Electricity 'to Power a City The Size of Elk Grove'

The Elk Grove Apple campus is hiring several positions with specific technical expertise.

Recent job postings for Apple's Elk Grove facility suggest the ultra-secretive company isn't just moving boxes there.

The Sacramento Business Journal took a look at recent openings at the Laguna Boulevard Apple campus, and found jobs requiring detailed technical knowledge and expertise with numerous programming languages.

"Chances are the person who fills that position won’t be driving a forklift," the Business Journal joked.

The Elk Grove Apple facility has been used as a call center, warehouse and distribution facility, according to federal filings examined by the Business Journal. That news outlet speculated that something else could be in the works for Elk Grove:

"The Elk Grove location has the electrical capacity to support a major data center," the Business Journal said. "It has its own 69 kilovolts substation from the Sacramento Metropolitan Utility District. That’s enough to power a city the size of Elk Grove."
