Bimbo Bakery to Close

One of Elk Grove's largest Mexican-owned distribution facilities to close in November.

One of Elk Grove's largest distribution centers is set to close its doors in November according to the Sacramento Bee.

The closure of Bimbo Bakeries distribution center on Iron Rock Way in Elk Grove will eliminate 128 local jobs, according to the Bee's story. The Northern California distribution headquarters is located in the Dino Industrial Park and bakes and ships many kinds of bread and tortillas.

A Bimbo representative said the production that was normally handled by the Elk Grove facility would be shifted to other sites.

“It was apparent that the facility did not have the infrastructure and manufacturing capability to compete in the marketplace,” said Joe Dangelmaier, the company’s regional vice president of operations, in a press release as printed in the Bee.
