Are There Too Many Gyms in Elk Grove?

Do you like all of the fitness options in Elk Grove or are there too many gyms?

A new fitness center is coming to Elk Grove and its opening raised a question: Are there too many gyms in Elk Grove or do residents like the vast options?

A quick google search for gyms in Elk Grove found about 20 gyms in the city ranging from CrossFit and Curves to family-friendly gyms and 24-hour fitness centers.

Soon, there will be one more option for residents.

Premier Fitness will open at 9186 Harbour Point Drive in Elk Grove, according to the city’s business license report.

A resident on Elk Grove Online raised the question about how it would compete with all of the other nearby gyms, especially after Gold’s Gym closed.

While we don’t have specifics yet on the new Premier Fitness and what type of fitness services they’ll offer, we are curious about your thoughts on the many fitness centers here in Elk Grove. Are there too many? Do you like all of the options? Tell us in the comment section below.

I think there are too many of a lot of things in Elk Grove, but in an age of fitness and health awareness, there are only too many gyms if there are not enough patrons to support them. Personally, I am a gym member, but I get a better, more interesting workout with Wendy Hoag and Moms In Motion. I love that it is goal oriented, tailored to each individuals needs and goals, but that it is also interactive socially. I have met a lot of goals with the help of Wendy, and met a lot of friends through Moms In Motion. Gyms are not the only way to get healthy! Keep moving mamas!

I just had to give up my membership with 24 hr in Elk Grove because of my health plan cancellation or association with 24 hr. I have joined Crunch, very reasonable, no contract and also very new to Elk Grove.

Does anybody know when Crunch gym opens? I'd like to check it out.

Crunch already has a small temporary set up until the main gym opens. Have not been, but know a couple people that go there. $10 a month, can't beat it.

Have been a member of Cal-Fit since it first opened in the old Marvel Grocery Store on Elk Grove-Florin Road in the early 90's; it feels like "family" and I enjoy working out there. However, as noted above, there are only too many gyms if there aren't enough patrons to support them. And each individual has to decide which type of gym best suits his/her needs and goals. As for me, Viva Cal-Fit!

Nail salons and spas still have them outnumbered 7 to 1.

It's off of 99 & Stockton Blvd (E or W, not sure). I don't believe they do have it b/c it's not on their lay out of the floor plan shows all other amenities except for child care.

There may be 20 (soon to be 21) gyms in Elk Grove but there are a few that cater to a specific customer so I dont think it's too many! Warriorz Cross Fit in Elk Grove is the place I always drive by and see people not only working out inside but also running or doing a number of exercises up and down Elk Grove Florin between their place and Elk Grove High School. Looks like a neat place? My wife goes to Nor Cal Fit and loves it.

Charlie and Michya with Warriorz Cross Fit of Elk Grove are awesome! Their clients always pass by our business through out the day...excercising both inside and outside of their fitness center!
Curves ElkGrove East February 14, 2013 at 10:21 PM
I love Curves!!I You can do Cardio and Strength training at the same time in just 30 mins...and now with Curves complete...they have included diet plan along with gym membership which makes it even better.

Better to be complaining about another health club opening than another fast food place opening...or another smoke store! Charlie @ Warriorz leads the best coaches! And Zumba Kim is the hottest! This is a good problem for EG.

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! CHECKOUT EXTREME FITNESS EXPRESS ON YELP! NOW REBRANDING THEMSELVES AS PREMIER FITNESS. THEY ARE MOVING THE GYM, NOT TELLING MEMBERS WHEN OR WHERE (WELL SUPPOSEDLY CALLING THEM ALL BUT MY HUSBAND NOR I GOT A PHONE CALL NOR EMAIL) SO WE SHOW UP TO THE GYM ON THURSDAY AND IT'S GONE. WE TRAVEL TO THE NEW PLACE AND TALK TO THE OWNER. HE SAYS SORRY REST YOUR MUSCLES A FEW DAYS WE WILL BE OPEN ON MONDAY. REST ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I HAVE A WORK OUT SCHEDULE GOING HERE! THEN HE SAYS WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE THE TRANSITION AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE SO WE ARE CLOSED THURSDAY FRIDAY. WELL WHAT ABOUT SAT AND SUN THIS IS A 24 HOUR GYM, WELL WE WOULD ALREADY HAVE BEEN CLOSED THOSE DAYS IS HIS REPLY. ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW? THIS IS HOW THEY WORK, THEY SAY WHAT THEY CAN TO SWINDLE YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. I ASKED ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR 4 DAYS OF NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE GYM, HE WAVED HIS ARM THROUGH THE NEW FACILITY AND SAID THIS WILL BE YOUR REIMBURSEMENT. DON'T GO TO THIS GYM! I AM DOING WHAT I CAN TO GET MY MONEY BACK AND GET OUT OF THEIR LIFE BINDING CONTRACT. BBB GET READY FOR A REPORT!

I would report this tothe city of Elk Grove as soon as you can! Then drive over to Warriorz Crossfit and let Charlie and his wife Micha train you! They have so much success with their membership because they are the owners and are always there to train. Most owners will give you a tour, sign you up and then you'll never see them again.

I do not think there are a lot of true gyms in Elk Grove... there may be a lot of studios but not everyone can afford that. I have been a member of anytime fitness and stayed through all of the changes and I have to say these owners (While not perfect) have done nothing but continue to improve the facility. The new gym (Premier Fitness) is one of the nicest gyms in town, while they are much more busy now they are still not crowded. I read all of the posts by a lot of members and I don't think these gys get a fair deal. Every one is entilted to their own opinion but I say this gym is above average and very nice. They opened later than they said they would but what construction job ever finishes on time for the most part. Give them a try, price is right. I too, went in upset because they closed for a few days to move everything over but after talking the one of the guys I understand why it had to happen. He was nice enough to extend my membership and I even added my brother and boyfriend on my account. So in my opinion there are only a few gyms in town the others are just studios which are not for everyone.
