DSW Shoe Store Opens to Crowds, Long Lines

Designer Shoe Warehouse on Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road opened for business Thursday.

On the first evening it was open for business, the line inside Elk Grove's newest shoe store was dozens of shoppers deep. Employees meandered through the store handing out water to customers, and shoppers left with reusable shopping bags in case they wanted to return.

Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) opened a store in Elk Grove Thursday, filling a space left vacant since Borders liquidated all its bookstores in the country.

"I loved it," Elk Grove resident Maria Pimentel said as she left the store with a few new pairs of shoes. "This is my store. Now there's one locally, so I'm going to be spending a lot of money here."

Krystal Kelly, an Elk Grove resident who recently relocated from Los Angeles, also had praises for the store.

"We've been waiting for weeks [for it to open]," Kelly said. "I was in heaven. All those shoes–it was like angels were playing, 'ahhhhh.' "

Judi Parker, a friend of Kelly's, said the store was "fabulous."

But Elk Grove resident Susan Cantner said while the shop had a good selection, she expected lower prices.

"Compared to other stores that carry the same or similar brands, the prices weren't all that different," Cantner said.

DSW corporate officials weren't immediately available for comment Thursday evening, and store officials said they weren't authorized to comment.
