Elk Grove Shopping Score of the Week: Fuzzy Headgear

Keep out the cold with this handmade beanie from Imagine That.

When our crafty Portuguese grandmother passed away, she left behind a treasure trove of knit and crocheted scarves, hats and ponchos. Whenever we wear one, we think of her.

If you don't have a Portuguese grandmother of your own, you can still stave off the winter chill with one of these beanies from Imagine That—handmade by the mother-in-law of owner Mary Pires. This sparkly purple number costs $19.95—more than you'd pay at Walmart, but a bargain for something made here in Elk Grove. The store stocks the hats in a variety of colors, and staff says they've been flying off the shelves during the recent cold spell.

Imagine That took over the old spot on Franklin Blvd in September. It's a cozy, cheerful oasis in the often-overlooked Franklin business district. Besides an array of affordable, bling-laden purses and jewelry, the store offers religious art and unusual gifts like children's aprons and oven-safe bakeware made of paper. (Yes, paper.)

For home decor, the store sells the Tyler line of scented candles ($7.50 to $20). (Our favorite, Icon, smells like your high-school boyfriend's cologne.)

Imagine That's prices range from $1.95 for a fun orange bracelet set to $164.95 for a soft, flower-and-animal-print weekend bag from Atenti.

Fuel your shopping trip with a burrito from Centenario Ranch restaurant up the block. If you ask, owner Rubén will fill it with chunks of fresh avocado. Yum!
