Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market plans to open six stores around Sacramento County next year, including one in Elk Grove, creating about 150 jobs in the region.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Oak Park store slated for Broadway and 34th Street was held Wednesday with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Fresh & Easy Market chief executive officer Tim Mason. The Elk Grove store is planned to open sometime in 2012 at Elk Grove-Florin and Calvine roads.
The Sacramento Bee reported that the project will also create about 300 construction jobs. Fresh & Easy officials said the stores will dedicate shelf space to locally-grown produce.
The chain has 177 stores in California, Nevada and Arizona, with a total of almost 5,000 employees.
