It's the Final Day for Capital Nursery: Will You Miss It?

The chain's two remaining stores in Elk Grove and Citrus Heights will close for good on Thursday.

Citrus Heights and Elk Grove residents with green thumbs will have to look elsewhere for plants and other gardening materials starting Friday: Thursday is the final day for the two remaining Capital Nursery stores.

The store posted this farewell message to its Facebook page Thursday morning:

"Today is the last day for Capital Nursery. It's been great! Made alot of great friends over the years. You all will be missed. Thank you for being customers and friends. If you haven't stop by, please stop by and tell us good bye."

The chain sold off its original store, on Freeport Boulevard, earlier this year, and announced plans to close the remaining stores last month.

"We've had recessions in the past and always survived those, but this one is a little worse because of the housing bubble bursting," . "People aren't spending the money."

Are you a loyal Capital Nursery customer? Will you miss the chain? Tell us why in the comments section below.

Any true gardener will miss Capitol Nursery. They could always be counted on to solve any plant or garden problems. A great loss for the community.

Absolutely! I've been a customer of Capitol Nursery for over twenty years. Good luck getting your gardening questions answered at Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart. Elk Grove has over 150,000 people. There's a need for a good nursery, a place where one can buy quality plants and get questions answered.

Yes! I will miss it! Is there much left in the store to buy today?

Lived near them for 7 years and shopped twice. They were always so kind to the fund raising groups allowing them to put on car washes in their parking lot. Must have had my car washed there 20+ times. That I will miss.
