Laguna Save Mart Closes Permanently, Ahead of Schedule

The Elk Grove grocery store closed its doors this week.

The on Laguna Boulevard is now permanently closed, five days earlier than was originally planned.

The grocery store at 7707 Laguna Blvd. closed its doors for the last time at 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to a sign posted on its door.

Elk Grove resident Susan Wilson and her husband tried to visit the store Thursday, but turned away when they saw the notice.

"I think it's really sad," Wilson said. "We used it a lot. ... It was a lot more reasonable than some of the other stores around here."

The pair said they would probably shop at WinCo now.

The closure was earlier than expected; .

"Unfortunately, the failing economy and the competition from other retailers have kept this store from performing at the level required to sustain it," Vice President of Save Mart Operations Ed Popke said in a written statement on May 29.

Quality over Quantity ! Cleanliness Knowledge ? Really How much does Winco have over SaveMart ? 3.1 Miles not a Really Long Drive lol So How about Quality ? Cleanliness? So if you wanted to protect and want your car to run pretty much forever, Would you shop ( or put) Let's say AM/PM 87 Octane WalMart/ Winco? or SaveMart, (91 Octane SHELL) in Your car? SaveMart has Bel Air Quality With close to Winco Prices , Especially in this economy! Plus they are Union with knowledgeable employees and friendly !! Everybody has to buy groceries so why would you settle for out of date half the time spoiled Meat products, wilted Produce, when you could drive the mear 3.1 miles as specifically stated for the above stated. and on another note, I have been following the Grocery status in Elk Grove, and since as a Wildland firefighter, I have nothing better to do other then Save lives, fight fires , and worry about the future of our groceries lol the Entire shopping center from Target to Leslie's Pools have been bought out by a foreign company and raised the rental amounts ! ( Pure Rumor) ( In this economy ! ) shame on them !! in time all those stores will be demolished as half the strip Malls in Elk Grove have met their demise ! very sad

As I see it, you have one other thing to worry about Michael, becoming a grocery snob.

Didn't I see Michael on an episode of Portlandia wondering "how much range" his free range chickens actually got? Did they get to make friends with other chickens? Did they have a relationship with the farmer? Were they given names? Put a bird on it and chill Michael...it's groceries....

I switched from Save Mart to Bel Air on Laguna a couple of years ago. It's just more brighter, and newer looking, especially after their remodel. I like the produce and meat sections better at Bel Air also, even if it's a little more. I must say though, the employees at Save Mart were great. I wish them all well.
