Location of New Leatherby's Revealed

Ice cream parlor will take over old Mandango's Sports Bar building on Laguna Blvd.

Elk Grove ice cream lovers have been all aflutter with the news of a Leatherby's Family Creamery coming to town.

On Tuesday, Mayor Steven Detrick revealed the future location of the ice cream parlor: the old Mandango's Sports Bar building in the Laguna Gateway Shopping Center, near the intersection of Laguna Blvd and Laguna Springs Drive.

Detrick made the announcement at a campaign fundraiser for his 2012 city council race, and it was confirmed by Thad Johnson of Pappas Investments, which owns the property.

Johnson said Leatherby's market surveys showed a large percentage of customers at the local ice cream chain's Arden location come from Elk Grove.

The family-oriented restaurant "is probably a better fit" for the shopping center than the sports bar was, Johnson said.

The Elk Grove location is set to open in Spring 2012 and will employ about 75 workers, said Leatherby's president Alan Leatherby.

Marty, Based on your comments, do you work for Leatherbys? The lines were out the door because it is new and the Arden store made them a Sacramento institution. Treating people rudely, and not accepting the most BASIC of client dissatisfaction solely based on arrogance and ego will not keep this business afloat as the Honeymoon period wares off. Sally Leatherby herself will admit that they opened prematurely and did not plan/train for the rush. To make things worse, they treat the customers like a nuisance because they are being overrun. Your need to defend this establishment and its ownership on all corners seems pretty suspect. I'm not discussing their politics, simply the HORRIBLE service received and rudeness in 2 visits over 2 weeks at this location. I have NEVER had a bad experience at the Arden location. Go on the record Marty....what is your relationship to leatherby's?

You're the one with the beef...why not take it to the owners or management. You mentioned a Sally Leatherby, maybe you could have this discussion with her. I'm just thankful we have been given this opportunity to put many of our high school and college population to work and will continue to patronize the business when I have that ice cream craving. You have a Good Day and maybe give them another try....or not.

I do have a beef. I have taken it directly to Sally Leatherby and she admitted it was opened too soon without proper training. It was she that tried to sell me on what a great person her RUDE Manager was because of his long term service as a policeman. They simply don't want to hear it when they blow it big time and that's a big part of being a worthy business in a community. Actually say "I'm sorry" and try to make things right instead of add insult to the injury and tell people "then don't come back". I am within my free right sir to share my unfortunate experience with this business and warn others that it could happen to them as well should they dare not like being treated rudely and receive poor service. Jobs aside, if the young men and women aren't learning good service..... Is it something to be supported? I'll let the masses decide. But I will certainly share my experiences....not one but two. I gave them 2 chances and they blew it. Ownership has shrugged their shoulders. People can ignore it or keep it in mind when spending their hard earned dollars.

Worst service ever!!! Went there today, and the manager "helped" us. We asked for hand packed; he started to help us, walked away to the back, came back to us, then went in the back for another container. When he finished packing it, he slammed it down on the cashier's counter, and walked away without a word. A young lady noticed I was still standing at the counter, and asked if I needed help. I ordered an ice cream soda; she started making it, and the manager walked up to her and told her to go help another employee. About 2 minutes later, the manager came up and asked if he could help me!! Wouldn't it have made sense to ask if we needed anything else while he was finished packing our ice cream?? Finally, another young lady finished our ice cream sodas. This is the third time we have gone into the Elk Grove location, and each time our server disappears in the middle of helping us. While I like their ice cream, is it really worth this horrible service.

Peggy, whatever you do...dont complain to "Joe" the Manager. He will literally tell you not to come back! Then when you do as I did and complain to Sally Leatherby herself. All they do is tell you what a great cop he was and ignore you! I will never return to this dump! They treat people like dirt. Let them get rich off of the idiots that dont want any service.
