School District Offers Training in Healthcare Industry Coding

DeVry University & New Families Inc also seeking to hire ASAP

Elk Grove Unified School District Career Training

The Elk Grove Unified School District’s Adult and Community Education (EGACE) and J&L Teamworks will offer career training in becoming a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC) starting next month. The courses last 16 weeks, at the end of which J&L will provide job placement services.

“The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will be a shortage of 50,000 qualified professional coders needed to meet the needs of the healthcare industry by the year 2015,” Kathy Hamilton, director of EGACE, said in a press release.  “Qualified professional coders will be in high demand and this class presents an excellent opportunity to obtain training to become eligible for these jobs.”

When:  Orientations will be held on April 6, 11 and 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Classes will be held Mondays from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m, beginning April 25.

Cost: CPC, $3200; CCS, $3500; CEMS, $1200 (affordable payment plans and discounts available)

One of the largest degree-granting schools in North America, DeVry University provides associate, bachelors and master's degree programs in business, the arts, technology and science. The university is currently seeking to hire for positions in its the Admissions Department.   

Position:  Admissions Advisor I – High School

Duties:  The advisor will be responsible for generating prospective students for enrollment, marketing the program to students, qualifying them for enrollment and participating in adult and high school career fairs.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; previous admissions, inside or outside experience; outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Must be a self starter and a team player, have the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

New Families, Inc. 

New Families, Inc., a foster family agency that works with children who have special emotional needs, is hiring for two positions that serve the Elk Grove and Sacramento areas.

Position:  Temporary Masters of Social Work Position. Lasts April 15 – Sept 15, with possibility to go full-time or part-time permanent. (6750 Folsom Blvd., Suite #235). 

Duties: This position will be working directly with children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or neglect. Provide support and planning for the foster families, interface with county social workers, develop plans to enhance children’s social skills, give on the spot behavioral coaching and other related duties. 

Requirements: MSW degree (will also consider work or volunteer experience in this field), high degree of emotional intelligence, a love of children and extensive experience working with families and children. You must have your own reliable car, insurance and a clear criminal record.  

Compensation: $2,517.15 - $3,356.20 monthly + dental/vision benefits after 90 days

Position:  Social Worker Aide – In Home Support, (6750 Folsom Blvd., Suite #235).

Duties: Assist the Social Worker with support services; provide transportation as needed to activities or duties related to child, plan productive, educational activities with the child and other related duties.

Requirements: Experience working with people and children, valid CA driver’s license, car and car insurance, no criminal record and a high school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s level student preferred. 

Compensation: $13.00/hr, part-time, with room to grow.
