Surf Xtreme Turns 1 Year Old This Month, Will Celebrate with Thursday Events

This Thursday, Surf Xtreme will offer discounts, and host food trucks and live music.

When an Elk Grove indoor surfing business closed in 2010, it had more problems than a lack of customers.

Dream Xtreme, an ill-fated, $2 million Laguna Boulevard business, had a humidity problem caused by the huge water attraction that wreaked havoc on electronic equipment in the building.

New owners Chris and Darla Parvizyar had to enclose the "FlowRider" surf simulation machine, and also added a heater to warm the water.

The business, which was reborn last year as Surf Xtreme, turns 1 year old this month and will celebrate with events this Thursday and on May 23.

This Thursday, FoodMob food trucks will be at Surf Xtreme from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., along with DJ and drummer duo InkdUp. Surf Xtreme will also offer drink specials and discounts to college students.

The following Thursday will be Surf Xtreme's end-of-school celebration, geared toward local college students. The business is also planning family events for Tuesday nights.

"We want a happy, safe and fun environment where people can make memories," Darla Parvizyar said.

She said it took a lot of work to remodel and reopen Surf Xtreme, but she's thankful for the initial investment by its original owner.

"We wouldn't be here if it weren't for him taking that financial risk," she said.

Parvizyar said Surf Xtreme also offers a full range of food, a Tiki bar and paintball.

Surf Xtreme is located at 3443 Laguna Blvd., near California Family Fitness and Strikes.
