T.G.I. Friday's Back in Elk Grove

Laguna Boulevard restaurant reopens after almost two years standing vacant.

The TGI Friday’s restaurant in Elk Grove reopened Monday, with a new promotion of craft beers and pub food.

The restaurant at 7101 Laguna Blvd. was vacant since shutting down in September 2009, when owner and Roseville developer Abe Alizadeh ran into financial trouble.

It was reopened by the chain and Stripes Restaurants Inc., a licensed franchisee, according to a news release from the company.

New additions include a "Better with Brew" menu that combines seafood and steak dishes with craft beers, including Fat Tire, Magic Hat and others being added to the roster.

Carlson Restaurants Worldwide Inc., which owns the chain, forced Alizadeh to close 10 Friday’s restaurants in Northern California, Oregon and Washington, including one in Sacramento. The Elk Grove restaurant, which seats 330, is the only one operating currently in the Sacramento area. It's part of a nationwide expansion plan for the company.
