Thanks for that link, Bwood.
Are there specific businesses in Elk Grove you think will be hurt by this new Walmart grocery store?
Bwood August 10, 2012 at 02:22 pm
I can think of several grocers in the greater EG area that will be impacted by this opening, the closest being the high-dollar Nugget and Trader Joe's stores.

Trader Joe's offers totally diffrent food than a regular grocery store. TJ shoppers are not going to give up going to them over wal-mart. The nugget I'm sure is struggling period, and Wal-mart has nothing to do with it.

I agree. The wine-and-cheese crowd will stay loyal to TJ's, no doubt. If Nugget is struggling, it's because their prices are not competitive and everybody knows it. It can't help but get worse for them when the Neighborhood Market opens ...

if the union wasnt involved with raleys and nugget, and bel air ect... the market would be extremely competative. But the if leash isnt released, the constant closing of those markets are going to keep happening. The union had its place years ago, but its time for those companies and all alike to rethink their futures.

Why not down to Grantline and then head back north along the freeway? Plus Kammerer will eventuallyRead More be widened all the way to I-5 and commuters can use that too. Take Grantline to Kammerer to Bruceville.

An overpass and off/on ramps will be built at Whitelock Parkway after the mall is built, whichRead More should take place after the soccer stadium is built, which should take place after the city secures a professional soccer team. Elk Grove better make sure the professional soccer team is a women's team, or else LaWanna Montgomery will be mad.

Thanks for the suggestion. The City is currently studying a new interchange off 99 and Whitelock,Read More and the project is in our General Plan. We’re also updating the Elk Grove Blvd. onramp—currently one of the most outdated on 99 in the region. Work will begin this summer.
