Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Out with the old, in with the blogs: Elk Grove Patch evolves to serve you better.

It's been said that the only constant is change, and that's especially true here at Elk Grove Patch. We're always improving the site to make it more vibrant and reflective of the Elk Grove community.

You might have noticed some changes to our page layout this week—more featured news stories, and an easier-to-read calendar. And there's a lot more in store.

Keeping the Best, Retiring the Rest

We've introduced many new features since we launched in December. Y'all, the readers, have voted with your eyeballs and mouse pads, and we've listened. Our popular Help Wanted, Frugal Family and Athlete of the Week columns will continue to appear in their respective Monday, Wednesday and Friday time slots. Get Out will still help you plan your weekend every Thursday, and columnist Jane Gassner will let you in on her Elk Grove State of Mind on Wednesdays.

Other departments, like House Hunt, Generation Z and Parent Patch Q&A, will appear on an occasional rather than weekly basis. We've retired our Patch Picks Top 5 lists and other parent-oriented features, but will integrate those topics into other content on Patch. Whew, I think that's it!

Blogging on Patch

Yup, that's right. Starting this week, Elk Grove Patch will have its own blogging platform. It's a great opportunity for Elk Grovians to speak their minds on topics they're passionate about—whether that's local politics or which Elk Grove soccer team is the best.

Blog posts are different from Patch news stories and even from our weekly columns; they're written by community members who aren't necessarily trained journalists and are expressing their personal opinions. And they're minimally edited for a more raw, uncensored feel (but not obscene. Easy there, tiger.)

We're looking for local bloggers who are already posting but want to reach a wider audience, along with those of you who are savvy about a particular area of life in the Grove and don't currently blog but would like to.

Interested? Send a couple lines about yourself and why you'd like to blog for Patch, along with a sample blog post, to felicia.mello@patch.com.
