Elk Grove and Sacramento Area Officials Open Cooling Centers

Two cooling stations opened in Elk Grove.

The National Weather Service is advising that a ridge of high pressure will “bring dangerously-high temperatures” to California this week. In response, Sacramento area officials, including those in Elk Grove, are advising residents without air conditioning to visit area cooling stations.

In Elk Grove:

Barbara Morse Wackford Community & Aquatic Complex

Open from 2 to 9 p.m.

• Laguna Town Hall

   3020 Renwick Ave.

   Open from 2 to 9 p.m.

Provided by the City of Elk Grove and Cosumnes Community Services District.

The Elk Grove cooling centers offer seating, water and an air conditioned room that will provide shelter from the heat. The cooling centers will be operated by CSD staff.

Laguna Town Hall can accommodate small pets only. Pets are not permitted at the Barbara Morse Wackford Community & Aquatic Complex.

In Sacramento:

Clunie Center, 

601 Alhambra Blvd.                           

Open Sunday through Thursday, from 2 to 8 p.m.

• Mims / Hagginwood Community Center               

3271 Marysville Blvd                      

Open Sunday through Thursday, from 2 to 9 p.m.

• Pannell/Meadowview Community Center          

2450 Meadowview Rd                  

Open Sunday through Thursday, from 2 to 9 p.m.

• Fruitridge Community Center                                    

4000 Fruitridge Rd                           

Open Monday through Thursday (County), from 2 to 9 p.m.

Overnight accommodations:

• Salvation Army

1200 N B Street
Open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. ,  or homeless visitors to get out of the heat. However,  no sleeping arrangements are available.

Elk Grove officials advise those without shelter or air conditioning drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and to dress appropriately for the hot weather while seeking out a cool environment.
