Foundation Seeks Members To Create Legacies

Cosumnes Legacy Foundation is accepting applications for new board members until July 29.

The Cosumnes Legacy Foundation is seeking up to three passionate community members to join its Board of Directors.

Applicants should be highly interested in the programs, parks, children, and future of the community and have networking and outreach skills, said the foundation’s Vice President Lyndon Hawkins.

Members of the board serve two- to three-year terms and are expected to attend six meetings a year.

The Cosumnes Legacy Foundation is a non-profit foundation made up of volunteers who work to provide funds to support parks and programs within the Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD).

The foundation has funded several projects including granting scholarships to 500 children, providing $120,000 to build the first Sacramento County public playground for children of all abilities, awarding $6,000 to the Cosumnes Fire Department for Honor Guard uniforms and raising $4,600 for a fire safety program called “Learn not to Burn,” according to the board.

Some of the foundation’s current projects include raising funds for the completion of the Elk Grove Veterans Memorial and the reconstruction of “Pirates Island," a pirate themed structure in Elk Grove Regional Park that was taken apart in the 1980s.

Jenny Smith, management analyst for CSD and liaison between the district and the Legacy Foundation, encourages people with extra time and a passion for the community to fill out an application.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Smith said. “We have a fun community. You get to be out meeting your neighbors.”

Applications should be submitted to the Cosumnes Legacy Foundation President, Chris Camarena, at P.O. Box 668, Elk Grove, CA 95759-0668 by July 29.
