Jan. 19: Love & Basketball, An Inconvenient Truth

Here's what's going on in and around Elk Grove today.

It's hard to believe Wednesday is already here. Life is in fast-forward mode and shows no indication of slowing down.

Why not put on the brakes and check out one of these options? We've got de todo un poco today—a little bit of everything.  Love to be in the spotlight? Sing your heart out at karaoke. If you'd rather blend in the crowd, sit in the audience of a basketball game or wrestling match; the choice is yours.

1. Come out and voice your opinion about environmental change at at the City of Elk Grove's Climate Action Plan Community Workshop from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., which covers the topic of global warming and how it affects us, including discussions about air quality, health issues and more. Don't be shy; let your inner Al Gore shine through.

2. It's not every day two local high school teams go head-to-head. Round up your friends and family and prepare to be entertained as the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack take on the Laguna Creek High School Cardinals at 6 p.m.—varsity wrestling at its best.

3. So you think you can sing? Show us what you're made of at Rock Star Karaoke Night at Strikes. The fun begins at 9 p.m. and includes prizes and a live band.  What's not to like? If you strike out at the mic, you can always bowl yourself silly. Yes, you have to wear the funny shoes.

4. Here comes the bride, all dressed in…OK, it's been a while since the wedding and you could both use a night out in the company of others. If you're married and in your 20s or 30s, you're invited to attend Young Marrieds from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Harvest Church. Talk with other couples about how to balance work, children, jobs, etc. You are not alone.

5. Let's hear it for the girls! Who says the boys get to have all the fun? Franklin High School's girls varsity basketball team goes up against Brookside Christian tonight at 7. Interested in player statistics?  Sure you are.  Go to http://www.maxpreps.com to find out the 411 on your favorites.
