Newtown Vigil to be Held in Elk Grove Friday

Local leaders and members of the faith community will gather to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Elk Grove officials will hold a vigil Friday to honor the 26 people killed in last week's Newtown, CT., shooting.

“Even though we are thousands of miles away from Connecticut, the tragedy that happened in Sandy Hook Elementary tears at our hearts as if the community was next door," Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis said in an emailed statement.

He and other local leaders, members of the faith community and others will gather from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation, 9040 High Tech Court. Attendees will sign a large poster and mail it to Newtown.
