When we asked readers last week, "What's the Worst Thing About Elk Grove?" the most popular answer, garnering 28 percent of responses, was "too few jobs for residents."

So how to fix the situation? It's a tough question. Luckily, we've got plenty of sharp, creative people here in our suburbalopolis to help us answer it. Some of the solutions below have already been tried in Elk Grove to some degree; others haven't. Vote for one, or add one of your own. A.  Nothing. Larger market forces determine the number of jobs available, and there's not much we can do about it.

B.  Require companies setting up shop here to hire local residents.

C.  Convince state agencies to locate their offices here.

D.  Raise taxes on the wealthy and use the funds to start a city-run jobs program, like the federal government did during the Depression.

E.  Steal jobs away from other cities by giving businesses tax breaks and reducing regulation.

F.  Run a PR campaign telling companies that Elk Grove is an awesome place to do business.
