Teen Dies in South County Vehicle Accident

Valley Springs man, 19, pronounced dead after his car hits a tree early Thursday

A vehicle accident claimed the life of another area young person Thursday morning. California Highway Patrol said Ryan R. Vlavianos, 19, of Valley Springs, died when the car he was driving hit a tree along Twin Cities Road east of Hardesty Lane in south Sacramento County about 6 a.m.

CHP officer Bernie Pico said the vehicle was traveling westbound on Twin Cities Road between Elk Grove and Galt, when Vlavianos made an unsafe turn, causing him to drift and brake. He lost control of the vehicle, and his car slid down an embankment and struck a tree on the north roadway edge.

The driver, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are trying to determine what made him make the unsafe turn movement,” Pico said. The victim was reportedly on his way to work in Sacramento County. Pico said that stretch of road is typically well-traveled by weekday morning commuters.
