Community Corner

Peace Through Understanding Forum

In light of Rotary International’s theme for this year, Peace Through Service, and President Tanaka’s call to hold district-wide peace forums, the Laguna Sunrise Rotary Club is sponsoring a Peace Through Understanding Forum on Thursday, March 7 at Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove.  Our keynote speaker will be Father Tom Bonacci with the Interfaith Peace Project in the Bay Area.  He will describe the work of the project with the focus on the fact that there is no world peace without religious peace.

We are also featuring a panel of local community leaders who will discuss the work they are doing in the community to promote peace and take questions from the audience.  Our panelists are Gary Davis, Mayor of Elk Grove; Steve Detrick, Vice-Mayor of Elk Grove; Robert Lehner, Elk Grove Police Chief; Steve Lapham, Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Unit and Law Enforcement Chair of the Greater Sacramento Area Task Force on Hate Crime; Dr. Steven Ladd, Superintendent of the Elk Grove Unified School District; Orlando Fuentes, Chair of Elk Grove’s Multicultural Committee; and Matthew Banicki, Chair of Elk Grove’s Youth Commission.

Please join us as we discuss peace on the local, regional, and global levels.  This community event is free and open to all.
