Ice Rink Will Not Open in Old Town Elk Grove This Year

Last year's ice-skating rink cost the city more than expected.

An ice rink that opened in Old Town Elk Grove last winter will not return to the city this holiday season.

Last year, the ice rink cost the city roughly $77,000 — more than they expected. Although operation costs were cheaper than they planned, attendance was lower than they hoped

In an update from City of Elk Grove staff regarding this year's ice rink, they wrote: "After a competitive bidding/RFP process and comprehensive fiscal analysis, the City of Elk Grove will not host a seasonal ice rink this year.  The City will promote other seasonal, shopping and recreational opportunities in Elk Grove available to residents during the holiday season."

Some Elk Grove residents thought an Elk Grove ice rink was a positive thing for the city, while others said the decision was rushed last year and not well thought out, according to comments on a previous Patch article
