Poll Results: Readers Divided on Occupy

The pros narrowly edged out the cons in this week's popular poll.

Over 500 readers , and like Californians, Elk Grovians appear to be polarized on the issue.

Supporters of the movement edged out detractors by just four votes, or 49 percent to 48 percent. A relatively small number, about two percent, said they felt "conflicted" about whether to support the movement.

"These kids are our country's heroes," wrote one Occupy fan in the comments section. Another, more critical, commenter said protesters "just want a handout."

Other readers expressed sympathy for the movement's complaints about corporate greed, but said protesters should spend their energy targeting politicians, including President Obama.

A Field Poll last week found similarly close results among California registered voters, but with slightly more voters opposed (49 percent) than in favor (46 percent).
