EG Tennis Group Gives to Elk Grove High School

The EG Tennis Group recently held a fundraising tournament to raise money to purchase wind/privacy screens for the tennis courts at Elk Grove High School (EGHS). The EG Tennis Group is a local community group of tennis players that meet regularly on Saturdays at Elk Grove High School, and this is just another way that the group is trying to give back to the school and the community.  The group has held similar fundraising tournaments in the past to support the EGHS Tennis Program. EG Tennis Group has made the tennis courts their “home” courts and over the years have done what they can to care for the courts, such as donating center straps to the EGHS Tennis Program, performed ‘clean-up’ of debris, leaves, and weeds, donated gate latches and repaired gates they can close properly.

Most of the newer high schools in the Elk Grove Unified School District have facilities that are gated and locked for security and protection from vandalism. These newer schools that built tennis courts include wind/privacy screens. To a tennis player, trying to track a yellow tennis ball can be difficult against a background of moving or parked cars, moving tree branches, or otherwise busy background. The consistent dark green screens on the fence lines behind the tennis players will be a vast improvement for the players on the high school tennis teams.

The EG Tennis Group started in the Summer of 2006 as a handful of casual players looking for enough players to play doubles… singles play was too exertive! The group linked up with the Tennis Ladder group through Elk Grove Online and began to meet fairly regularly on Saturday mornings at Miwok Park. As the group continued to grow, we started meeting at Elk Grove High School (EGHS) to make sure we had enough courts on which to play.

The skill level of our players ranges from beginners to intermediate. Probably 2.5 to 4.0 on the USTA NTRP scale. We welcome anyone, at any skill level to come join us. We usually rotate partners to maximize your chance to play with a variety of players of varying skill levels. Our goal is to have FUN.
